New Clients
The first step to becoming a birth center client is to stop in for a tour and consultation. We currently have open house on Friday from 11-1pm. You are also free to call us and set up a private tour on a different day or time. Tours and initial consultations are given free of charge.
If you have health insurance, your benefits must be verified. To do this, go to www.midwifebilling.com and under Billing Service, click Verify Benefits. Click here for a direct link to the Verification of Benefits online form. Fill out the form, and your benefits will be verified and, if possible, an in-network exception will be applied for. There is a $20 fee for this service. If you prefer to verify benefits and apply for the in-network exception yourself, call the birth center and we will send you the paperwork. (Note: for “Name of Your Midwife,” if you have not yet chosen a midwife, you can just put CCMC.)
Your next step is to pick a midwife. The midwife you choose will follow you throughout the remainder of your pregnancy and will attend your birth. Perhaps you already know which midwife you want because your friends have recommended someone. Or, perhaps you liked the midwife who gave you a tour of the center. If you don’t have anyone in mind, click Midwives and read the bios. You may also consider your schedule. Each midwife has her own clinic day when she tries to keep most of her appointments. If one day of the week is particularly good (or bad) for you, this may assist you in your decision.
Occasionally, it becomes necessary to change midwives. This can be arranged and should be discussed as soon as the need becomes apparent.
Once you have decided to become a birth center client, you should schedule an initial appointment and fill out registration paperwork. You can download it from here, print it, and bring it with you, filled out, to your appointment. If you do not have the capability to print the paperwork, let your midwife know and she can mail the forms to you. The paperwork takes some time, so it does need to be filled out before, and not during, the appointment. An initial appointment with a midwife is usually lengthy and can sometimes take over an hour. Subsequent appointments may not take as long.
With few exceptions, we do ask that a deposit or first payment of no less than $300 be paid at the initial appointment. Checks can be made out to CCMC.
